To The One Who Overcomes Part 5:
Hold On to What You Have -
The Church in Thyatira
Revelation 2:18-29
Pastor Bob Hiller
8/3/2008
Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan's so-called deep secrets (I will not impose any other burden on you): Only hold on to what you have until I come.
Revelation 2:23b-25
Person: Christ is the Son of God who will __________ those who attempt to __________ His church and __________ them under His feet.
Praise: This is a church that is growing in its __________ and __________.
Problem: The church is following the teachings of a __________ prophet.

Take It With You!
During this series please consider reading through the first three chapters of Revelation daily with your family or on your own. After each sermon, questions will be provided to guide your reading and prayer time. God's blessings in your study!
1. Though we always recognize that our works do not contribute to our salvation or standing before God, when we have faith, Jesus is pleased with our works (Revelation 2:19). Luther said that God doesn't need our works, but our neighbors do. What are some ways you can demonstrate the love God has shown to you to others?
2. In Revelation 2:20-23 Jesus is upset with a prophetess whose teachings are leading people away from Christ by teaching them that any spiritual path leads to God. Where do we see this false teaching today? How can we respond as those who know Christ is our only God and savior?
3. Jesus makes some pretty incredible promises throughout the Bible. Here in Revelation 2:26-27 He promises to give the ability to rule and reign with (though still under) Him in eternity. This week, thank Jesus for this and all other gifts He gives you through His life, death, and resurrection.
