You Are Qualified

John 20:10-18, Psalm 147

Qualifications are always important. Whether it be your family doctor, dentist, or even your local mechanic, their qualifications usually indicate their expertise in a given field.

Yes, qualifications are so important. We are always grading everything. Restaurants are given a grade for their sanitary conditions, hotels are given certain stars [five star, four start etc], and yelp presents a star rating for local businesses. We are always being graded. Honestly it is quite overwhelming.

Even for our youth who are heading into college or post-grad work, it seems their qualifications are heavily magnified in the admissions process. GPA? SAT? ACT? Essay? Extracurricular activities? The list goes on and on, as the fine tooth comb compares each and everyone of them. And what a stress to be under this microscope.

“The events of both the cross and empty tomb qualified Mary, you, and all to be greeted by the almighty God in the flesh-by name!”

In terms of salvation, many people believe we need a certain GPA of piety, or a high SAT score on good works, or a holy and pious ACT score in order to earn eternal life with God. Yet if this was truly the case, our grades would be in the dumps. All of us would fall short [Gen3,Rm3:23,Eph2:1] because of the fall and original sin.

As it read in Ps147, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds…The Lord lifts up the humble”.

Dwelling in the Creed [which I encourage every one of you to recite in the morning before you get out of bed, and at night..before you sleep], but the Creed reminds us what God has done for us.

When we say, “I believe in God the Father…”, we are constantly reminded of what He has done in terms of creation of the world, to our existence, to even the cereal we ate this morning.

When we say, “I believe in Jesus Christ our Lord”, we are reminded of what He has done in terms of redeeming us by His body and blood on the Cross. Yes, You are forgiven. The devil crushed, the keys to eternal life given as Christ has accomplished this for you.

When we say, “I believe in the Holy Spirit”, we dwell upon the Lord who created Faith in us [2Cor12:9], who brought us to the water and the Word, who serves us His body and blood at the Sacrament of the Altar.

Because in Him, we are qualified. Though we fall short, we repent. The life of faith, is…that in the midst of sin, convicted of it all, we confess in faith, and like children, we trust in the Father who sent His Son to be our Savior so that by His body and blood we are presented holy and blameless in front of God.

And thus, by His Grace, You are qualified!
Happy Viernes mi familiia!
